Taxonomy change beginning with 2001 data

Data for 1990 through 2000 are based on the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) coding system. Beginning in January 2001, wage and salary employment estimates were published under a new classification system. The SIC has been replaced by the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS). Data prior to 2001 are comparable only for Total Nonfarm Wage and Salary.
