Fees

Vessel license based on the overall length of the vessel: $24-$900 plus an additional $30 for initial issuance of a metal ADF&G number plate

Annual renewal of Fishing permit (dependent upon type of fishery):

  • Resident $75-$3,000
  • Nonresident $75-$3,000- plus a yearly fee of $190
  • Low-income residents pay one-half the resident fee
  • Low-income nonresidents pay one-half the non-resident fee plus $190

Requirements

Commercial fishing vessels, tenders, packers, processors, and transporters must be licensed. Vessels five tons or over are assigned Official Documentation numbers by the U.S. Coast Guard while the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles assigns registration numbers to vessels under five net tons. Vessel operators need commercial fishing permits which are dependent upon type of fishery--a combination of resource, gear type, and area.
